'Make it happen,' George Russell not afraid of Max Verstappen’s potential move to Mercedes for 2025
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

The speculations of Max Verstappen ’s possible move to Mercedes are not slowing down. The speculations started swirling at the start of the season, and despite the Dutchman addressing them himself they are only growing in terms of numbers. However, despite the incessant noise, Mercedes driver, George Russell has indicated that he would be happy to have Verstappen as his teammate.

Lewis Hamilton is set to move to Ferrari in 2025, marking the ongoing campaign as his last season with the Brackley-based squad. There have been many names linked with the Mercedes seat, Carlos Sainz and their junior driver, Andrea Kimi Antonelli have been heavily linked amidst the Max Verstappen rumors.

Amidst the hype, George Russell is surprisingly looking forward to Verstappen’s potential Mercedes move, while talking about the same with the media, he had the following to say.

I would welcome Max. I want to go against the best – everybody wants to prove what they’ve got. So, yeah, make it happen. George Russell said: lastwordonsports.com

Russell claimed that in the past three years, he has enjoyed being a teammate with Hamilton, as the seven-time world champion is a great driver, and that they push each other on every race weekend. To replace the best, one obviously needs the best, and thus Russell is up for the challenge of locking horns with Verstappen at Mercedes.

George Russell wouldn’t mind having Adrian Newey in Mercedes

After the news of Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull Racing was made official, many wondered where the technical chief officer would want to go. In the official statement, it is said that Newey would be focusing on the development of Red Bull’s first-ever hypercar, the RB17 as he will step back from his F1 duties. But the possibility of him moving to another team, or perhaps Mercedes is still open, and George Russell is fully in favor of it.

While talking about the same he had the following to add.

He is someone I respect, and of course, he is a legend in everything he has achieved in the sport. It doesn't change our life unless there's a secret and he thinks Mercedes is... Who knows? I don't know. So, as I said, I think it's great seeing a lot of loyalty for a long time. He's been in their team for 20 years. Same as Lewis being at Mercedes for 12 years, sometimes people need a change, and a change is a fresh start for both parties., and it'll be interesting to see what happens next. Adrian Newey is known as a master when it comes to developing dominant challengers. Mercedes has been struggling with its cars since 2022 and keeping this in view, it will be in the best interest of the team if they manage to secure the 65-year-old from 2025 onward. The race for Newey will only get more intense in the upcoming months.
